The Ghosts 'n Goblins games were some of the most fun, although also some of the hardest, games in the classic console world. Follow the adventures of Arthur as he searches for his lost love, and saves the world from the ghoulish invaders. Best of all, you get to turn things around and see it from the other side, in the Gargoyle's Quest games! Another great series with memorable titles on the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, and Sega Genesis. | |||
Our beautiful Princess is kidnapped. Her lover, the Knight, armed with five different weapons, must pass through seven guarded gates to successfully rescue the princess.
The Knight needs your skill to rescue the Princess to cunningly maneuver
escapes from Hades, land of the enemies.
Save your girlfriend from the demon (Asutaroto) that kidnapped her in the middle of your picnic. Not much of a story, true, but that's not the point. The point is, this is a really fun game.
Ghosts 'n Goblins was a pretty good conversion from the arcade game to the NES. The enemies are well drawn and tough. The sound in this game was pretty good, with only a couple of annoying ones. Overall a very good effort by the folks at Capcom. |

Ghouls 'n Ghosts is a sequel to Ghosts 'n Goblins, which is one of the most difficult games ever made. This installment is no different, harder than ever. There are some neat features added. The gameplay is just like its predecessor. You must save the princess by fighting your way through the levels with a boss at the end of each one. The graphics look better on this one though. The sprites and backgrounds look better, and the colors are brighter. The controls are easy because they are the same, and they are responsive. The story is the same, with Lucifer kidnapping your princess again. Despite its ludicrous difficulty, it is a lot of fun to play. |

A KNIGHT'S QUEST All hail, dauntless knight Arthur! Years ago you quelled the terrifying phantoms of the Ghoul Realm who hexed the earth, and rescued Princess Guinevere. Since that time you've journeyed far over the world seeking the powerful weapons of White Magic. But now the kingdom is shrouded under an eerie spell. Sardius, the Emperor of Evil, has snatched Princess Guinevere away to the slimy crypts of the Phantom Zone. The Ghoul Realm has revived, and the Creatures of the Undead haunt the land. Once again, you must survive the dangerous journey into the depths of the Ghoul Realm. You'll swat at horrid ectoplasms and ghouls whose touch is deadly. Vampires will swirl around your head. Voracious plants will snap at you, hungry for bones to gnaw. The earth will crack, the seas will swell, and the fiends of darkness will engulf you. Your courage and skill will keep you moving through overwhelming terrors. And on the path, a mighty weapon - Magic - awaits!
Buckle on your sword, Arthur. It's time to begin your quest!
Super Ghouls and Ghosts is an action packed ride through an extremely hard game. Although the original Ghosts and Goblins on the NES platform was harder, this one was still pretty challenging. The graphics are very similar, only much better drawn and animated. The sounds were a little different, but all in all they sounded better and still had a Ghosts and Goblins feel to them. If you are a fan of the Ghosts and Goblins series, give Super Ghouls and Ghosts a try!

A Legend of Two Realms Many, many years ago it was a time of fantasy and intrigue. Legends passed from generation to generation. People loved to spin takes of great warriors rising up against the tyrannical forces of those who ruled. One such legend spoke of a world that was once divided into two different lands. The two realms existed in harmony: one ruled by humans, the other ruled by demons. There was rarely conflict between the two realms until one fateful day. Six magical stones fell from the sky into the demon's realm. Inscribed on the stones were the Crests of Fire, Earth, Air, Water, Time and Heaven. These crests, when united, would grant unimaginable power. Soon the demons began to fight over these magical crests. The demon realm erupted into civil war. The land was in turmoil over the stones until finally one red demon emerged with five stones by defeating the others. This demon was known as Firebrand. Firebrand was not satisified that possessing the Crests of Fire, Earth, Air, Water and Time would end the war. He then challenged the Demon Dragon for the Crest of Heaven. After a long and desperate battle, Firebrand slayed the Dragon and gained the final Crest. But the price of victory was high. Firebrand was critically wounded. Firebrand also did not realize that while he was obtaining the Crests, his success only moved him closer to failure. The jealous demon Phalanx secretly trailed Firebrand and waited for just the right moment. "I have defeated the Red Demon!" Phalanx cried. "I shall reign supreme! With the power of the Crest, both the demon world and the human world are mine!" Firebrand vowed revenge on Phalanx. Phalanx was clever, though. He separated the crests in case someone did rise up to challenge the power he possessed. And now someone has risen to the challenge. The legend of Firebrand is about to unfold in the search of the Demon's Crest! --From the Super Nintendo Demon's Crest instruction manual. Demon's Crest is a continuation of the Gargoyle's Quest series, which takes place in the Ghoul Realm, the opposite side of the human world. It's also where Ghosts 'n Goblins was set, when a demon kidnapped Princess Guinivere and took her there. The graphics are excellent, still in keeping with the style and theme of this great classic series. Demon's Crest departs from the Adventure/RPG style of Gargoyle's Quest. The game-play is more action oriented, similar to Ghosts 'n Goblins. |

Ages ago the friendly Ghoul Realm was invaded by an alien force known only as the Destroyers. The Destroyers almost succeeded in capturing the Ghoul Realm when an incredible fire came out of the sky and eliminated them. The secret of that powerful fire was lost through the ages, and the Destroyers are back for a rematch.
The only clue to the survival of the Ghoul Realm lies in the hint that the
sole heir to the "Red Gargoyle" can bring back the magic flame. As Firebrand, guardian Gargoyle of the Realm, you must discover this heir to the magic flame and bring peace to the kingdom once again. This game brought together a combination of the platform action known from Ghosts 'n Goblins and some basic RPG-style functions. The graphics are awesome for a Game Boy game, with nice big sprites and plenty of detail, along with good animation. The sound could have been better, but turn it off and enjoy playing the game anyway. Gargoyle's Quest is not quite as challenging (impossible) as Ghosts 'n Goblins, but it is certainly hard enough, and lots of fun too. |

Demon - warrior - hero! A long time ago, between the age of the dinosaurs and the dawn of mankind, there existed the magical world of Etruria. A local monster named Firebrand from the Ghoul Realm was busy training in the arts of the warrior. He is a young and powerful gargoyle - human in shape, yet he has leathery wings with massive claws on his hands and feet.
He studies at the Warrior's Training Center to use his combat talents in
defense of the Ghoul Realm. His time comes (sooner than he expected), as a
mysterious black light appeared one day and drained the magic from the land.
A great sequel to a great game. Again, the mix of RPG elements and action platforming works surprisingly well. The graphics and game-play are very similar to the Game Boy original, but in color. The music and sound effects are much improved, though still not great. As always with the Ghosts 'n Goblins series, it's the fun and challenge of Gargoyle's Quest that will hook you in and stay with you. |
